Life’s Perfect Strangeness

The warm fuzzies of electronics.

So I’m preparing today for the arrival of my recently-exed boyfriend, so he can get all of his belongings out of my home. They are interwoven into my things so completely; everywhere I turn I find something else. It’s disorienting, upsetting.

But I am also still living ordinary life, shopping for a small television for the weekend house (which I now think of as my real home, the apartment just a place to stay till I can leave NYC), making myself numb with too many product reviews. Fortunately for me, my ex-husband is very tech savvy, and very patient with my endless barrage of product questions. I just sent him this email, knowing that I am feeling extra love for him because of the way he is still very much in my life, knowing that my ex-boyfriend will just disappear into history.

Chris,

So if I buy a WiFi enabled TV, does that mean I can watch movies on the TV that are playing via the external drive on my Mac Air? Cause if I do that, then I don’t need to buy a DVD player…. Please advise.

And thanks for always being willing to answer my tech questions. YOU ARE AWESOME.

Love, your ex-wife

Life’s perfect strangeness, summed up in a search for electronics.

About stacy

I am a writer, author, mother, former magazine editor (last at Redbook), optimist, and, above all, a searcher. I'm still searching for whom I'm really meant to be, after a series of very jarring losses: a divorce and house disaster that led to a book (Falling Apart In One Piece); a week after the book came out, my parents suddenly fell gravely ill, I resigned from my job (and, apparently, my career), my son went into crisis, my parents then rapidly died four weeks apart, and my boyfriend (who had moved in with me and my son just weeks before the book came out) began the painful journey of realizing we couldn't make our relationship work (that story unfolded on this blog). Since then I've been trying to figure out what's next. Or, in other words, how to fill in the blanks.
